Captain Anthony Savage "of Broadway", was living in Gloucester county, Virginia, in 1660, when he was added to the Commissioners (william and Mary Quarterly, Vol. 4, p. 89), and the sameyear filled the office of Sheriff, (Va. Magazine, Vol. 42, p.65). In 1670, Anthony Savage of Gloucester (Va.) "bought one thousand acres of land on the north side of the Rappahannock River, in the upper precinct of Cittenbourne parish," known as "Mongoheocala," which in 1692 became part of Richmond county, and in 1770 of King George. The last record of Anthony Savage is found in Richmond county, Order Book No. 2, p.55, June 5, 1695, on which date his will was presented for probate by his son-in-law, Francis Thornton. -- "The Ligon Family and Connections" by William D.
